DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Manager of Platform Engineering Services Team, this employee will perform general purpose Unix system administration tasks supporting a number of key Nielsen/VNU projects.
REQUIRED: Requires an in-depth knowledge of the Sun Solaris Operating System, versions 7 to 10, working TCP/IP knowledge, network monitoring, system diagnostic knowledge, advanced system administration experience. It also requires Veritas Volume Manager, NFS, NIS and DNS experience. Requires an in-depth experience with larger Sun Server architectures, including Sunfire V490, V890, 2900, 4900 server lines up to F15k. Requires excellent customer service skills, including written and verbal communications, to interact effectively with peers, senior management, vendors, consultants and customers, both internal and external. Must be able to serve as UNIX representative in all related project matters with minimal direct supervision. Must also be able to contribute technical solutions to development application problems when required. Minimum of five years experience in UNIX system programming and administration, including hardware and software performance monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting, application of system software patches. Requires a four year college degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience in business, government or educational environment.
